Dennis C. Morgan
Pastor
Pastor Dennis Morgan, a past member of this congregation, was appointed as of July 2024. He was serving as pastor of Memorial UMC in Virginia Beach at the time of his 2020 graduation from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, and was later appointed to Thalia UMC, also in Virginia Beach, where he served as Associate Pastor and Director of Microchurch Ministries. He considers “church” a verb, and one that is unrestricted by a building.
Prior to his ministry call, Pastor Dennis worked for the Department of Justice, NYNEX, American Express, and Accenture before forming his own management consulting company. Previously a Certified Lay Minister and Worship Leader, he also served the Coastal Virginia District as Director of Lay Servant Development.
Pastor Dennis and his wife Teri were married at Mt. Vernon in 2013 by Pastor David Craig. The couple took residence in Virginia Beach until returning to Williamsburg in 2017.
Besides travel and cooking, Pastor Dennis enjoys ‘60s-‘70s music, and a good murder mystery.
Brenda Rowe
Administrative Assistant
Brenda has been the Administrative Assistant since 2020. She enjoys all aspects of working in the church office, but especially loves the people of Mt. Vernon. The people are open and friendly and volunteer to help in the office whenever needed. Brenda has lived in the area for 30 years and was married at Mt. Vernon 24 years ago to her husband, Jeremy, which makes Mt. Vernon a special place to work. Together they have 2 children, Shelby and son-in-law Caleb, and Brooke.
Carol Kendall
Organist & Choir Director
Carol has been playing the organ at Mt. Vernon for over 40 years. She and her husband, Jack, have been members since 1977. They have one living son, Jason, who lives with his wife, Beth, and three children in Lynchburg. Carol loves working with her choir and sharing beautiful music with our church. She’s a retired fifth grade teacher from Norge Elementary School and currently tutors reading there.
